This grand 5 passenger convertible sedan was the most expensive in the 1933 line up. When the top is folded down there is a second windshield and windwings to protect the passengers in the rear. Art deco styling is clear here, spoke wheels were out of fashion so they are covered. The stainless strips on the body sides are “sweated” or soldered. A perfect example of the custom body era features. This car has spare tire covers, 5 settings for ride control on the fly, power brakes, anti theft ignition, linkage driven driving lights and rear trunk. Only 125 V16 engines produced this year. This car is well known to the high end side of the classic car hobby. Wheelbase of 150”.

4 speed automatic. The brontosaurus of chrome as I call it, has an interesting story. The actor Van Johnson bought this car new and shipped it to Europe to be with him on a British movie shoot. I have a Veedol oil change tag from Ouchy, Switzerland where it was serviced. When the tour was completed, he gave the car to his dad, a plumber, up in Rhode Island, New York. His dad rarely used it and that’s why it only has 22,000 miles. 4930 LB 4 speed automatic.

Designed for GM’s traveling motorama show in 1955 this was Cadillac’s dream car. These were hand assembled on a separate production line at Clark Ave in Detroit. The 1957 and 1958 models were basically the same cars. 400 produced in 57 and 304 in 1958. Because of the 1958 recession and $13,070 price tag, production was low so each unit ended up costing GM $23,000 to produce. No car company came close to GM for technology and innovation. Compare these features to any other car of the time. Brougham Features- 45 interior trim and colour options – 15 exterior colours. Brushed stainless steel roof. Inside the glove box and rear seat compartment you’ll find ladies compact, magnetized drinking cups, cigarette case, lipstick holder, mirror, note pad, and perfume atomizer of Arpege. 365 cu. in., 3 two barrel carbs and an astounding 335 H.P. Four speed automatic, full flow oil filter – new to the industry. Air ride suspension, auto leveling, anti-dive feature for hard braking, auto headlight dimming, auto start feature. Electric fuel pump, memory power seats, suicide doors. Power trunk opener – power trunk closer. Full gauge package & warning lights for each. When rear doors are ajar – selector won’t shift to drive. Two rear under seat heaters with individual switches for blowers. Industy’s first quad headlamps, industry’s first all transistor radio, industry’s first standard air conditioning, industry’s first year round AC to use only fresh air. This car was owned by BOB HOPE – from 1958-1984 and was on display on a turntable in an office building lobby in San Diego.
